The Zombie Football Player Dolls Got a Makeover, And They Are Awesome

There is a crochet story behind the Zombie Football Player Dolls. So seven years ago (more of my old is showing) I was contacted by Carrie Harris, author of, “Bad Taste and Boys.” Her book was coming out, and she needed a Zombie Football Player Doll crochet pattern so she could make a bunch of zombie football player dolls to give away when her book came out. It all sounded pretty good, and our zombie doll was born. There was a KBG interview and everything. Good times.

So many years ago, I designed this hat. I didn’t have a winter hat at the time and thought this would be awesome. It was totally awesome, aside from my lack of experience writing and designing crochet patterns. The hat was always a little snug, and I’m pretty sure the yardage wasn’t figured out correctly. We were holding 2 different yarns together as one (which I’m a huge fan of), but it seemed like the hat was harder than it had to be in those areas.

{Crash Course Crochet} Fastening Off Your Yarn When Working In The Round

Make your edge look STUNNING after putting in all of that awesome crochet work. Since crocheting anything takes forever, don’t you think it’s a shame to leave your finished edge looking unfinished? Simply fastening off your yarn (the usual slip stitch and pull through) leaves a knot. It leaves your beautiful crochet looking like you have more work to do. You can do better, and your talent demands it. DEMANDS IT!

Yes! You can now make your own Grimeclaw Monster doll. I’m so excited for all of you. This has been a labor of love that has gone on for months. I’m really excited to see it all come together. Today I’m releasing just the crochet pattern. The original plan was to have the crochet pattern and the crochet pattern kit release on the same day… like today. Apparently that wasn’t meant to be, because I forgot about a few things that I really need to ship out the kits. They’re all ordered and will be here very soon. The crochet pattern kit gets its own little PRE-SALE, and you get to save $2 by ordering early.

{Crash Course Crochet} How to Make a Decreased Single Crochet Stitch

This is one of the most useful crochet stitches that I have in my crochet tool box. The decreased single crochet (d.sc) stitch allows me to decrease my stitch count, without leaving a gaping hole… the one that would be created by simply skipping a stitch. Being a crocheted doll maker, this is important, because holes cause gaps. Gaps cause your stuffing to show or fall out. I’m a big fan of keeping everything tight. The stitch is useful for all types of crocheting; not just doll work. It’s one of the most useful crochet tools when shaping your work. You can use this stitch to decrease one (or more!) stitch in a few steps. It’s easy enough for a beginning crocheter to master.

Change of Plans… The Holiday Monster Doll Crochet Pattern Release and Gallery

Everybody changes their mind. It seems to happen frequently, over here, at Knot By Gran’ma. This time is no exception. The original plan to have a crochet pattern for the hat that the Holiday Monster Doll wears, only in a human size(s), has been changed. I can’t get through the hat. It’s endless row upon row upon row, and boring me out of my mind. It’s been quite the effort to only do work that makes me happy. The hat(s) weren’t doing anything close to bringing happiness… only dread… and doom… and gloom. This is why the plans changed.

What about the pink monster for your book? Well… I got sidetracked. This is what happens when you let yourself run out of white thread, making it impossible to finish the cool pink monster that you were working on in the first place. While I was waiting for the thread, I started this new monster. It’s kind of cool… mainly because it’s another monster with tentacles. Yes, I have a thing for monsters with tentacles. Tentacles are cool. Now that I have more white thread, I’m going to finish this monster and then the pink one too.
