What is the Knot Hate Project?
The Knot Hate Project is mixed media art pieces that provide commentary on the hate and ignorance that we are seeing rise back up, becoming main stream… like it’s cool. It’s so not cool. Just because hate has always been there, doesn’t mean we have to be quiet about it. It doesn’t mean that we can’t point it out for the world to see. The Knot Hate Project is my way of vocalizing my disgust for the normalization of the hate, corruption, and lack of LOVE we are seeing all around us.
I have hopes that the art will be shared around the internet, so we have another reminder that none of this is fine. Sometimes artists need to be the voice for those who do not have a voice.
Hate has always been around, but somewhere along the line, it started becoming normal. We can never allow this to happen.
Right. I’ve been pretty ill over ALL THE BAD THINGS that are becoming normalized in our country (the world, but I can only bring in so much information). We are seeing a rise in racism, sexism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and the open destruction of our planet (because science is apparently not a thing anymore?). I’m also baffled at our government’s inability to understand that they are PUBLIC SERVANTS who work FOR THE PEOPLE. It’s truly frightening, and I feel like barfing all the time. It’s paralyzing, and it’s affecting my ability to create/work/concentrate.
So now that I’ve taken more than a month of pity potty time, I’m ready to do something. I need to SCREAM that it’s bad to normalize these assaults on our civil liberties, our country’s laws, and the environment in which our children need to live. I’m tired of hoping that it will get better. I’m tired of watching out of touch, old men (mostly… there are some women haters & young guys too) pass barbaric laws that will bring us backwards in history. I’m tired of people saying science is wrong. COME ON, IT’S SCIENCE… based on facts, and not beliefs.
And speaking of BELIEFS… religion falls under that category. Religion is not fact. I’m tired of people thinking that they are such a special snowflake that they can shove their particular beliefs down my (or that guy’s, or that lady’s, or anyone’s) throat under the guise of government. There’s separation of church and state for a reason!!!!!
But mostly I’m tired of everyone not having empathy, not treating each other the way they would want to be treated, and not looking up from their phones to do something about it. This is all exhausting.
Where can I find the Knot Hate Project?
Instagram will be the main home for the project. There’s a Twitter and a Facebook also, so you can follow along wherever you are comfortable on social media. There’s also a main project page here on Knot By Gran’ma, which will start with just streaming the Instagram feed. Eventually I’d like it to be the hub for the entire project. I’m taking baby steps, because there’s that whole I need to get started, instead of feeling like I’m going to ralph all over thing going on. There will be updates. I promise.
When is the Knot Hate Project starting?
I don’t know yet. Probably during my winter break, which is the week after Christmas… and definitely once I finish up the monster doll that I need for it. There’s still a lot of crocheting and stitching left on that guy. Knot By Gran’ma work is finishing up for the year, and that’s the priority for now. I may finish early and get to start working on the project sooner. If you would like to be notified, you can sign up for the KBG newsletter. I will be announcing the start of the project there. You can also keep checking in on social media if you prefer.
