I have the pleasure of introducing you to Shannon Chomanczuk from Emily and Eden. Shannon is a local artist and is making some beautiful jewelry in her little corner of The Hudson Valley.
Jess: What is your business?
Shannon: Emily and Eden at emilyandeden.com
Jess: What do you do?
Shannon: I design and make jewelry from recycled sterling silver, gemstones, and Swarovski crystals.
Each piece is handmade to order by me in my home studio in Hudson Valley, NY.
Jess: How did you start?
Shannon: I got started making jewelry in 2002 after attending a handmade jewelry party at a friend’s house. I have always loved making art and was looking for something to do in the evenings after my day job. I bought some tools and beads and have been designing ever since.
Jess: Where do I want to be in 3 years?
Shannon: My daughters will be 9 and 6 so I am guessing I will pretty busy in 3 years. I own a salon where I work 3 days a week doing nails so that keeps me pretty busy when I am not home with my girls. I am working on building the wholesale end of my business so in 3 years I would love to have my work in stores across the country.
If I had to give myself advice on business, what would it be?
Shannon: Relax, you are right where you should be. Building a business takes time.
Jess: What is your favorite dessert, dance move, guilty pleasure, and celebrity crush?
Shannon: Dessert, ice cream. I used to work at Baskin and Robbins so I am obsessed with ice cream. Mint chocolate chip ice cream with hot fudge is my favorite. But, I will never turn down ice cream, lol.
Dance move, anything as long as no one is watching. I am not a graceful dancer but I love to play Dance Party on Wii with my daughters.
Guilty pleasure, Reading jewelry design and crafty business books. I love the movies Center Stage, The Hunger Games and the TV shows 12 Monkeys, and Project Runway.
Celebrity crush will always and forever be Kevin Bacon.
Jess: What is your favorite achievement?
Shannon: My family. We are married 15 years this July and have 2 beautiful daughters, Emily and Eden. They are my whole world.
Jess: Random picture of yourself?
Shannon: I love this picture because it is me with my daughters.
Jess: Do you like long walks on the beach?
Shannon: Yes but I don’t live near the beach
I started out trying to sketch a jewelry designer monster, but I ended up with more of a jewelry loving monster. Kind of… anyway. I didn’t use my normal ball point pen, because I love to write with this particular pen. I will not be using it again for pictures. I don’t have the skills to make it do what I’d like. I’m okay with that.
